Mompos

SANTA CRUZ DE MOMPOS

Sleepy Mompos feels like going back in time. There is no traffic apart from the motorcycle powered Tuk-Tuk which are a great way to get around town. Surrounded by the Río Magdelena. Famed for its rocking chars and exquisite filigree jewelry. Great restoration work has been done recently in Mompos in Plaza de al Concépcion and on the Albarradas along the riverfront and we can’t recommend it highly enough. If you want to get a feel for what Colombia was like in the time of Gabriel García Márquez’s “100 years of Solitude”. Then Mompos is for you. And despite what the guidebooks may say Mompos is getting more and more accessible.

WHAT TO DO
One of the key attractions for visitors to Mompox is its well preserved colonial architecture. Just wander the streets and take it all in.

Bird-watching and Rio Magdalena boat tours.

Take a tour of one of the many Silver Filigree workshops to see how they painstakingly make this beautiful jewellery.
